Call for Submissions: GUGOG @ IEEE VIS 2026

Date:

15 May 2026 - 1 August 2026

📣 Call for Submissions: GUGOG @ IEEE VIS 2026

We're inviting submissions to the Grand Unified Grammar of Graphics (GUGOG) workshop — a half-day hybrid workshop at IEEE VIS 2026.

Visualization grammars (ggplot2, Vega-Lite, Observable Plot, and many others) share intellectual roots in Wilkinson's Grammar of Graphics, yet differ substantially in their abstractions, design goals, and target users. GUGOG brings together researchers and practitioners to seek a unified view of this diverse landscape.

We welcome two types of non-archival submissions:

📄 Short position papers (< 4 pages) — conceptual or philosophical arguments
about grammar-based visualization

💬 Discussion abstracts (up to 500 words) — provocations, opinions, and
observations on grammar-based visualization research

Topics include: comparative grammar analysis, formal and algebraic foundations,
domain-specific grammars, learnability and adoption, natural language
interfaces, and practitioner perspectives.

🗓 Submission deadline: August 1, 2026
🔗 Submit via PCS: https://new.precisionconference.com/vgtc
→ Select the VIS 2026 GUGOG track

Accepted submissions are hosted on the workshop website and are not considered
archival — authors are free to reuse content in follow-up publications.
